RS Group of companies started life as RS Fashions in 1985 as a garmenting unit involved in the manufacture of blue jeans for the US market.
Under the chairmanship of Mr Ram Mardemootoo the company achieved constant and continuous success. Rapid expansion of its operations took place and other companies were created. Thus Dan Fashions and MKlen Fashions Ltd were created, each entity specializing in garmenting sub operations such as dry hand process and laundry. This structure was found to be necessary in order to extract world class performance and provide world class support and service to its customers. Its success outgrew its shores and the group set up a sewing plant, named L5, in neighboring Madagascar where it produced over 3 million pcs per year. This company has since been sold but its success in the region is unparalleled. The Group has since refocused its attention to Mauritius where it is convinced there are many days left ahead for the textile industry despite growing international competition.
This firm conviction has seen the latest addition to the Group - RS Denim Ltd which will be a fully integrated textile mill, using the latest technologies to produce denim fabrics starting from virgin cotton to finished fabrics. This unit required a total investment of more than 30 M USD and fabric production is scheduled at the end of 2006.
With this investment the RS Group of companies will add a strategical dimension to its garmenting operations as it will become self sufficient in fabrics. It will thus allow invaluable synergies between its various manufacturing units and will attract a different and more up market class of customers. RS Denim will also invariably drive the local fabrics supply market due to its size. The existing denim fabrics supply on the island is unable to satisfy demand and is proving to be a major constraint in the expansion of valuable garmenting business in the region.
With this new addition RS Group will see its turnover increase more than 5 fold. The Chairman has more plans in store to further increase group turnover through additional garmenting facilities.
